“Creativity and art can restore beauty to the world. We are Sanguemisto: we unite, integrate and blend to build a better future.”
Who we are
Our history

Sanguemisto is a nonprofit cultural association and theater company founded in Florence in 2018. Rooted in the experience of Piuma Onlus, dedicated to teaching Italian to asylum seekers, Sanguemisto fuses theater and social engagement, involving professional actors, volunteers, migrants and refugees.
Since 2018, we have created 21 shows, involved more than 30 asylum seekers, 25 actors and actresses, 12 musicians and numerous volunteers. Our shows have found a home in Estate Fiorentina and numerous theaters across Tuscany, bringing stories that unite and inspire to the stage.
Our values and the topics we address

We cannot do theater without bringing our values to the stage:
- Respect for differences
- Inclusion and countering inequality
- Individual rights and social responsibility
- Wellbeing, quality of life and health
We explore diversity, multi-ethnic integration, peace, solidarity and more:
- The fight against war
- Gender inequality
- Poverty old and new
- The value of school and education

The beating heart

The beating heart of Sanguemisto is the rehearsals of the shows, a time for authentic and profound encounters between people from different languages, cultures and walks of life. Each rehearsal becomes an opportunity to build relationships, experiment with new ways of communicating and creating together. The creation of performances requires complex organization: working groups with different functions and origins collaborate, often in separate times and spaces, to give rise to a common artistic dialogue. Rehearsals serve not only to perfect scenic solutions, but above all to tune into the same emotional and creative climate, finding a common language through movement, dance and music.
