A dance-theater performance that explores the future, the desire to imagine it and the possibility of a possible utopia. Between storytelling, dance, live music and poetic video, “Beyond the Moon” is a journey between past, present and future, seen through the eyes of three generations.

The play brings to the stage a father and son, in 2050, reading and commenting on their grandfather’s stories. The texts, written by Umberto Falorni, weave irony, poetry, dream and reality, reflecting on past, present and future.
The subtitle “From Dystopia to Utopia” encapsulates the heart of the narrative: in a world marked by crisis and tragedy, is it still possible to imagine a positive future?
Through theater, dance and music, “Beyond the Moon” takes the audience on a journey of hope and awareness, addressing the theme of memory and building a better tomorrow.

“Beyond the Moon” is an invitation to look forward, to believe in a possible tomorrow, despite everything

Style and languages

In keeping with Sanguemisto’s tradition, the show is an interweaving of artistic languages:

  • Theater and storytelling: Dialogues between generations to tell the past and imagine the future.
  • Dance: Evocative choreography that accompanies and amplifies the storytelling.
  • Live music: A repertoire that ranges between modern sounds and traditional songs, such as “Dimmi bel giovane,” an anarchist song from 1871.
  • Video and images: Poetic and evocative sequences made by young video makers.

With the end of restrictions due to the pandemic, “Beyond the Moon” marks Sanguemisto’s return to live theater with a rich and ambitious production.

Debut and repeat performances

Origini e contesto

After its debut in 2021, the play was revived the following year under the title “Looking at the Moon,” in an expanded version. This evolution testifies to Sanguemisto’s path of theatrical research, which experiments and refines its productions over time.
The playbill for the show recalls the style of illustrations from The Little Prince, a reference that underscores the importance of the point of view of childhood and youth in the company’s works.
In 2022, the show is dedicated to Sergio Pannocchia, educator and intellectual, creator of Il Grandevetro magazine, a landmark for alternative culture.
