A show that narrates the desperate journey of migrants through the verses of Erri De Luca and a scenic language that weaves together theater, poetry, dance and music. A collective, powerful and universal tale that celebrates human strength and resilience.
Inspired by the poem “Solo andata” by Erri De Luca, the show, through a collective and polyphonic narrative, recounts the journey of the protagonists who represent the difficulties, hopes and dreams of those who cross the world in search of a better future.
De Luca’s verses trace a poignant portrait of a landless people, who on foot and only thanks to their feet, in perpetual motion, are able to overcome any barrier or obstacle thanks to the strength of their will.
The show debuted in 2018, Sanguemisto’s official founding year, during the Florentine Summer. Originally titled “We are the feet … and we hold your weight,” it featured young women asylum seekers, such as Hamdi, and new collaborations such as that of the CAT Theater Workshop of Vicchio in Mugello.
With the new title “We are only gone,” the show was also promoted by the Parish of Santa Maria in Ricorboli, testifying to Sanguemisto’s ability to create unexpected and meaningful connections, useful in multiplying opportunities for relationships and interaction of cultures and languages.
“Solo andata” is a tribute to the courage of migrants and their journey. For the Italian artists involved, the show is an immersive and transformative experience: an encounter with languages, sounds and sensations that represent the contradictions and crises of our time.
Through poetry and performance, the project brings viewers to the center of historical change, reminding them that beauty can emerge even from the greatest difficulties.
Style and languages
The show mixes different artistic languages, including theater, poetry, contemporary dance, video and live music. The group includes migrants and Italian artists, creating a unique and unrepeatable synergy.
Music and movement become natural vehicles of expression, capable of communicating universal emotions and stories. Even mistakes and difficulties are transformed into an integral part of the beauty and harmony of the stage.
