Sanguemisto performs a tribute to Genoese singer-songwriter Fabrizio DeAndrè, 20 years after his death, for his attention in so many songs to the last, the humble, the marginalized, the dispossessed, a theme that lies at the root of the Florentine Theater Company’s birth.
Inspired by a verse from “Anime Salve,” the title song of Fabrizio De André’s last recorded album in 1996, “Mi sono visto di spalle che artivo” follows the story of Samadou Traore, an unaccompanied minor boy who arrives in Italy from Mali, interwoven with Gian Maria Testa’s songs in a journey of transformation and empathy.
A journey between music, poetry and storytelling that pays tribute to the memory of Fabrizio De André and Gian Maria Testa, telling Samadou’s story and experiences of migration.
This is a revisitation, a second edition of the previous show “Sguardo Meticcio,” with a new dramaturgy and updated interpretations. In this choice of telling the same story, changing the narrative a bit each time, there is Sanguemisto’s goal of building a kind of modern epic of migration.
The playbill reads “Dedicated to migrants, Fabrizio De André and Gian Maria Testa.” In this dedication some of Sanguemisto’s sources of inspiration are gathered together. With the usual consistency in staging, languages and artistic contributions mingle, juxtaposing ‘the different’ rather than ‘the similar’ to each other. This show is a bridge between cultures and histories, celebrating resilience, memory and shared humanity.
